My Journey - Getting to the Root of Me

My background is actually in consulting and teaching process improvement. Basically, I start by coming into a department and assess a process by working with frontline staff to see how they are currently doing the work. We methodically map each step, identify any wasted time or steps, and look for barriers for both them and the customer. From there, I then dig into the root cause of what is creating those wastes and barriers, and I help the department create and implement a new future state work flow that will improve everyone’s overall experience, save time, and money. I share this to show that my brain is wired for constant root cause analysis to understand and identify how to really fix a problem. Whether it be at work, in my home, or with my health, I am constantly curious, an avid researcher, and am always digging deeper for better ways to improve my life and help those around me. And I am so thankful for this natural mentality and skillset since many years ago, my body started rejecting food which is what really sent me down my holistic journey.

It started months before my 30th birthday where no matter what I ate, my immune system overreacted. I had never had any food allergies or intolerances, and now my body was constantly covered in horrible hives, inflamed, swollen, and even bruised. Aside from that, I was always that skinny girl that could eat anything and wear whatever I wanted, but now, no matter what I ate, my belly inflamed terribly causing me to look five months pregnant. So besides the physical pain, it took an emotional toll too.

I sought the help of an allergist, and do you know what the diagnosis was? She told me that I was “allergic to the ‘act of eating’.” What?! There’s no such thing as that. I received no insight as to what was actually happening, why, or how to really fix it. So when western medicine isn’t there for you, you learn to take matters into your own hands to get to the root cause and heal your body.

It’s now been over a decade of healing. I’m proud of where I’ve come on this journey - which I will share with you more details and learnings in future blog posts. I’ve invested a ton of time into research on the right supplements to support my health and various diets to treat allergies, leaky gut, and SIBO. These years have also included me taking on a new hobby and skill set - gardening and herbalism! I have found it so important to learn to grow as much of my own food as possible, to avoid pesticides and eat as cleanly as I can. Learning about herbs and all they can do to heal your body has been so enlightening as well! So it’s been a journey, but yet such a blessing. Aside from my own growth, I’ve learned that I can help others, even with just little tips along the way. In the end, while it has been hard, I am so grateful for the path I was put on, and the new things I get to learn each day!
